CLIENT : DISNEY +
AGENCY : Future Power Station
PROJECT : M-Power / Super Powered Women of Marvel
ROLE : Compositor / Animator 2D-3D
Working along side the incredibly talented team at Future Power Station, we created the animated content for Disney's 4 part documentary series about the women of  Marvel.
Each episode told the story of the lead actors and how they got their inspiration to play the character. We brought their back stories to life though short animated section, which were cut into the documentaries along with behind the scenes footage, interviews and scenes from the Marvel universe.
The documentaries also had a section in which ordinary people reflected on how the Marvel character had influenced them and shaped their lives. These were also accompanied with animated sections.
EPISODE ONE
THE WOMEN OF BLACK PANTHER
This episode of "M Power" explores the roots of the comic and how the main characters (Okoye (Danai Gurira), Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), Ayo (Florence Kasumba) and Shuri (Letitia Wright))  performances were influenced by the actors’ own lived experiences and how the spirit of Africa and black excellence shaped every aspect of the films.
EPISODE TWO
CAPTAIN MARVEL
Following the footsteps of Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) and her journey to overcome fear and physical challenges of the role. We recreated her early life and her fixation with Captain Marvel through to her fighter pilot training with the first female pilot to fly a F-16. Combining 2D frame animation with 3D models we were able to create dynamic sequences that blended together with live footage.
We also used the same technique to enhance the "Fan" section where NASA astronaut "NAME" imagines floating though space as a child as she pretends to be Captain Marvel. We used the 3D models of the space shuttle to act as a transition from live footage to animation.
EPISODE THREE
SCARLET WITCH
In this episode we follow the development of the Scarlet Witch character Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and her love affair with Vision. I assisted mainly in compositing a few scenes for this episode and adding a few flourishes here and there.
EPISODE FOUR
GAMORA
Gamora (Zoë Saldaña) and her sister Nebula are the main focus in this episode. Zoë talks openly about the similarities of Gamora and her own up bring and how she channelled her emotions to bring the character to life. We animated sections where she talks of the influence of her father who died when she was a child and her profession as a dancer before becoming an actress. And of course how she always wanted to be a ninja. Building the bull fighting section was one of my favourite parts of this project. We created a rough style and developed the scene from animatics. I created a 3D cloth to use as a template and switched the scene from a dance studio to a cobble stoned arena. Watching the character develop was amazing the final 2D cell framed movement added so much to the feel.
The "superfan" was an amputee who connected with Nebula who was mainly bionic. I created a series of prosthetic arms and animated the false hand being connected to the limb.
I wish I could say I helped on the ninja, but I didn't.
